She couldn’t see him, but she sure as hell wasn’t deaf—so nothing, NOTHING could block out that annoying noise.
It’d been happening for what……3 days straight now? And god, how it annoyed her.
She’d lay down to sleep, and right at 11 on the dot, she could hear the faint sounds of someone crying. And she didn’t need to ask to tell who it was---Aang. Why he was crying, she had no idea. But she figured he wanted to be something of a man, so she’d decided to not say anything…….so one night, she finally decided to creep out from under her blanket and approach the blubbering blob that was the great and mighty “Avatar”.
“Hey, Twinkle toes.” She snapped, but quietly, as to not wake the others.
He jumped at least 2 feet into the air, she could have sworn……well, she couldn’t really, once his feet left the ground she was clueless. But…anyway…
“T-T-Toph?!” Aang exclaimed, hastily wiping his eyes.
“Don’t try to deny it, Twinkles. You were crying. Now, what’s the matter?”
He shuffled his feet, nervously, she noticed.
“W-well. It’s just…I..I don’t know what to do.” He finally muttered.
“Are you stupid?” She shot, jabbing a finger into his chest. “You have no reason to be unsure, Twinkle toes. We have your back, so what’s there to be scared of? You’re almost a decent bender now, anyway……idiot.”
And then he was hugging her, and she found her face buried against his chest—and everything was right in front of her. The smell of his clothing, the beating of his heart.
“Thank you, Toph.”
“…….shut up.”
